The Lady Rams defense was awesome in the 1st quarter Tuesday night holding South Johnston to just one single free throw in the first 9 minutes of play. The Rams actually let early in the 2nd quarter on Courtney Morris' three point shot. "We got out to a good start defensively in the first half. Anytime you hold a team to one point in any quarter, that's pretty good. But we just wore down as the game moved into the third quarter, said coach Danehower."
Playing short handed was nothing new for the Lady Rams as they were playing their fourth game without injured point guard Mo Torres. However tonight was a different story due to illness and other circumstances, Cleveland began the game with only 2 subs. In the first three minutes they would need to call on the bench with center Deanne Roberson sidelined with two first quarter fouls. Still they Rams did not give up trailing 17-10 at halftime.Sam Hollon came in and gave us some good minutes tonight and grabbed a career high 4 rebounds."
"We just were not able to score the timely basket again tonight. Courtney Ireland playing out of her normal position of post, again did a great job of playing on the perimeter and had several shots that seemed to rim out just before they went through the net."
"I am not disappointed in their efforts as they played with toughness and perseverance throughout the game, said Danehower. We have to continue to improve and play the last few games out and look to build for next year. These last few games are very important for the future of our program."
The Lady Rams will travel to Triton on Friday for the last regular season game Friday before getting ready for the ECC tournament next week.
